Pilgrim Classroom- Cut Flower Garden 101 Workshop

Have you ever wanted to grow cut flowers in your backyard or even have the urge to start a cut flower micro farm, maybe you have a vision much bigger than those two things but need to start somewhere- a place to bring you questions and get practical advice for ordering seeds, timing, planting, management and harvesting tips. This workshop is a perfect introduction to the world of cut flowers! I will cover an array of topics that will give you a boost of confidence as you head into this year’s growing season- topics that cover: Seed ordering, annuals vs. perennials, zoning, list of summer flowers to grow this year, seed starting, indoor seed starting vs direct sowing, growing in ground vs raised beds, color theory, flower recipes for arrangements, and so much more. We will enter the second half of the workshop with a Q&A so you can have all your specific questions answered for your own growing space and experience. Then, to end the session, we will all participate in a hands-on activity! I will have both of my soil block, 2’’ and 3/4’’ for you to use and plant some flower seeds in to get your growing started!! I will show you how to care for your seedling until they are planted out in the garden. Our estimated last frost in April 21, so you will have a little head start with your seedlings! I will have printed information for everyone but bring a pen and your garden planner to take even more notes if you desire. I will have some refreshments available to enjoy while we learn!
